1. Who we are
createwebsite.ng (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the createwebsite.ng platform — a website and online store builder for African businesses. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users (“you”) and handling your personal data in a transparent, responsible way.
2. Data we collect
We collect information you give us directly and information generated as you use the platform:
- Account data — name, email address, and a hashed password when you register. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us; we don't receive your Google password or access anything else in your Google account.
- Site and store content — text, images, products, and settings you add to your site or store.
- Payment data — transaction references and amounts processed via our payment provider. We do not store card numbers or bank details.
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, and error logs, to help us improve the platform.
- Domain data — domain names and DNS settings you configure.
- Domain owner details — when you buy a domain: the owner's name, business name (if any), email, phone number and address.
3. How we use your data
- To provide, operate, and improve the platform.
- To process payments and send transaction receipts.
- To send service-related notifications (account changes, billing alerts).
- To respond to support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Data sharing
We share data only with service providers necessary to run the platform:
- Cloud infrastructure — your data is stored on secure cloud servers.
- Payment processing — payment transactions are processed by our payment provider in accordance with their privacy policy.
- Email delivery — transactional emails, and newsletters site owners send to their subscribers, are sent via our email service provider, which is based in the United States. We rely on its contractual safeguards for this transfer.
- CDN and edge network — your published site is served via Cloudflare's global network.
- Domain registrar and registry — when you buy a domain, its owner's details are sent to our domain registrar and to the domain's registry (for example, NiRA for .ng domains), which need them to register the domain in the owner's name. Depending on the registry, some of these details may appear in public domain ownership (WHOIS) records.
4a. Data we process for site owners
When visitors use a site built on createwebsite.ng — sending a contact form, booking, ordering, or subscribing to a newsletter — the site's owner decides what that information is used for, and we process it on their behalf. If you are a visitor with a question about your data, please contact the site owner first; we will help them answer you.
5. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data and site content are permanently removed within 30 days. We may retain anonymised, aggregated data for analytics.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your account and data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
7. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the platform is used. See our Cookie Policy for details.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), hashed password storage, and access controls. No system is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password and report any suspected vulnerabilities to us immediately.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice in the dashboard. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
